Your kitchen, your rules

Self Catering Accommodation in Windsor

Proper kitchens — hobs, ovens, dishwashers, the good knives — in apartments and houses across Windsor and Eton. Cook when you like, breakfast in pyjamas, and watch the holiday budget behave itself.

Why self catering makes sense in Windsor

Windsor's restaurants are one of the joys of a stay here — but nobody wants to eat out three times a day for a week. Self catering gives you the choice: coffee and toast at home before beating the crowds to the Castle, a picnic assembled for the Long Walk, then dinner out at whichever restaurant you've been eyeing up. For families, it's transformative — children fed on their own schedule, a freezer for the ice lollies, and a washer-dryer that means you pack half as much.

Every property we manage is self catering in the fullest sense. Not a microwave-and-minifridge "kitchenette", but a complete kitchen: full-size oven and hob, fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster, microwave, and cupboards stocked with pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and glassware. Many, like our Brocas Street townhouse in Eton, add dishwashers, induction hobs and granite worktops that put most home kitchens to shame.

The maths: self catering vs hotel dining

Take a family of four on a five-night stay. Hotel breakfasts at around £15 a head and one restaurant dinner a day at £20–25 a head adds up to roughly £700–£800 in food alone. Swap half those meals for a supermarket shop — there's a large Tesco and Waitrose within a few minutes of most of our properties, plus M&S Foodhall in the town centre — and a realistic food budget drops to £300–£400, with better breakfasts. Over a week, self catering typically pays for one of your five nights.

Stocking up: where locals actually shop

  • Windsor Farm Shop (Datchet Road) — produce from the Royal Farms, five minutes' drive. The sausages have a following.
  • Town centre — M&S Foodhall and a Sainsbury's Local for daily top-ups, both an easy walk from central apartments.
  • Big shops — Tesco Extra at Dedworth and Waitrose in central Windsor for the full arrival shop; both deliver, and yes, you can have a supermarket delivery sent to your apartment (guests do it all the time — just tell us and we'll advise the best slot).
  • Eton High Street — independent bakeries and delis for the holiday-mode croissant run.

Self catering for every kind of stay

Self catering isn't just for holidays. It's what makes month-long short lets livable, keeps per-diem costs sane for corporate and project stays, and turns a family holiday into something closer to living here. If you're comparing us with individually-hosted rentals, our Airbnb-style stays page explains the difference professional management makes — mainly, that when something in the kitchen breaks, a real person from a real Windsor office comes and fixes it.
